Ashlyn's Birth Story

Ashlyn came into this world on 14 December 2001. Two days late and fear of induction, she decided to enter her own way.

Felt the contraction as early as 7 a.m., woke her Daddy and told him that it could be the day. Took a pen and paper. Noted down the time when the pain came and went. Took a shower as that would be the last till a month later. Went to the coffeshop and have a hearty breakfast to energise for the push.

Although there was pain, laughter was heard instead of screams. We laughed all the way to the hospital. Trying to laugh away the fear and anxiety. Drivers along the road stared at the crazy two.

Reached the hospital and handed over the noted time. Nurses laughed and commented how clever to do so. Without prior checking for false contraction, they immediately admitted the tickled Mummy.

Waited for the epidural to settle and the pain to numb. Waited till five-thirty in the evening and was almost ready to push.

Gynae came and extend the dilation with her fingers cos' she was in a rush to go home. Must be a birthday celebration cos' a cake was what she had in her hands.

Mummy was not the only one pushing at that time. Nurses running in and out, trying to attend to another two pushing away. Daddy took over the midwife's job. Looked at the monitor for the peak of the contraction and shouted for Mummy to push. Mummy, nurses and gynae were impressed.

At 6.22 p.m., Ashlyn entered into the world. She was cleaned and of course the proud Daddy took all the pictures.

After a hard day's work, Mummy and Daddy were ushered into the ward for a good dinner and a good rest.
